Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I am from NC but came up to NJ to do some work because things were so bad in NCI let my insurance lapse and my state suspended my registrationa cop in point pleasant sitting on an island decided to run my plates as I passed by and then followed me down the road about a mile and pulled me over told me i had no insurance and impounded my van now NC wants me to turn in the tag for 30 days before issuing new one I cant get to work ,my van is being charged storage at $25 a day and Im stuck in NJ living in a motel and soon will be homelessthe police wont release my vehicle until NC says so I have proof of new insurance NC doesnt care they want my tag for 30 days meanwhile im losing all the work i had to do because i cant get there is there anything i can do?

You are caught between 2 bureaucracies. You can't deal with NC til you deal with NJ. You can't deal with NJ til you deal with NC. I've handled this kind of situation before. You need someone who can push them to be reasonable. It is fixable. I've done it. I recommend you get a lawyer. Fair or not, the paper pushers are more likely to listen to a lawyer than to you.
