Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
I live in New Jersey and my wife was parked in a outdoor mall parking lot. She was parked in teh section that was roughly the grocery store lot.
When she came out of the store she had a ticket for lack of registration. Our registration had expired and we may not have received the notice from the state that they usually send out which they even acknowledged when she called.
There was also a notice that not only is she not allowed to drive the vehicle, but the car would be towed within 72 hours.
This is in Freehold Township under Ordinance 228-8.
My question is, is it legal for an office to go through a parking lot a check registration of a car with no other cause? I thought that police are only allowed to check on vehicles with cause.

I am not sure that I understand your question. Police departments have been know to do license checks. I would have to review the discovery as well as the particular ordinance.
