Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

NJ Provisional License Speeding Ticket

Recently my 17-year-old son who has a provisional license was pulled over and given a ticket. He was driving 85 mph in a 65 mph fines-doubled zone. That's four points in NJ, and his court date is coming up. Should he go to this court date to try to get the points reduced? The officer who gave him the ticket told my son that he''didn't know what would happen'' if my son went to court, because he only has a provisional license. What's the best move--just pay the fine and take the huge 4-point insurance hit, or try to have him plead not guilty or something else in traffic court?

Thank you.

Re: NJ Provisional License Speeding Ticket

I suggest getting an attorney, especially with the PDL. They just changed the law with regard to PDLs and its is tougher to get a good deal. It will probably cost you less to hire an attorney than it would be to pay the insurance.

Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss the case. I practice in every court in NJ.

Re: NJ Provisional License Speeding Ticket

your son's probability of success increases dramatically in most cases when a lawyer is present - never pay the fine on a four-point ticket without trying to get a deal---your best bet is to get a lawyer rather than spend the money on fines and points. Let an experienced lawyer review your son's case.
