I am guessing that it was a right turn on red, if there was no sign posted, I would go back and take a Photo of the intersection, specifcally the light. If it is a red light ticket it carries 2 M V points. Initially you want to request a Court date (regardless of whether or not you hire a lawyer) the number for the Court is on the back of your summons. plead not guilty, go to Court and speak with the Prosecutor and advise him or her that there was no sign at the interection. You can discuss with the prosecutor what he or she would be willing to offer you, they should (most likely) offer you a downgrade to a no point violation. If you are content with reducing the summons to one that does not carry points you can accept a plea and resolve the case that way. However, if you are not content with a potential plea and/or do not wish to accept any plea and the prosecutor is not willing to dismiss, you will need to have a trial and let the Judge decide whether you' re guilty or not. if there are any witnesses such as another passenger in your car, make sure that you bring them to Court if there will be a trial. I am basing this Answer based on what you posted and it is just a general guidline of what may happen. Please feel free to call with any questions as I never charge a fee for merely speaking with someone about their case. All the best (201)-894-9498
