I am not sure that I follow the question. If your asking if a parent can represent their own child in Municipal Court if that child was issued a traffic summons, if the parent is not a lawyer then they cannot act as a lawyer. A parent can obviously appear with their child for moral support and I doubt that the Municipal prosecutor would care very much if you came with them to speak with the prosecutor on your child's behalf to potentially work out the case. You cannot formally appear as a lawyer before the Judge and I would doubt that the Judge would allow you to represent your child in a trial, but again it probably does not hurt to be there for moral support. If your child has a fairly serious summons you would clearly benefit from speaking to a lawyer. Again, this is all general information. Please feel free to call with any questions (201)-342-5030
