Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

no parking zone

I recently received a ticket for parking in a no parking zone. There were signs along the side of the road which said no parking but the signs did not have any arrows pointing in any direction indicating in which direction or where the no parking zone was. I believed that the no parking zone was between the signs so I parked past the last sign on the side of the road. There were no signs in front of me, no yellow curbs or yellow lines. HOw is a driver to know where a no parking zone ends if it is not designated? Is there some regulation that says no parking is so many feet AROUND a sign? I can't figure this out? The ticket is $44 dollars and I would like to fight it because I made a good faith effort not to park in the zone - which I have no idea where it is? And the kicker is that over 8 cars were parked BETWEEN the signs and none of them had a ticket. My car was from out of town and expensive and it had the ticket. Help! The statute is NJ 39:4-138

Re: no parking zone

You made a mistake in your interpretation of the signs. Since there were no directional arrows it means the entire area was a no parking zone. The arrow signs are used only where there is a change in the zone. As to the other cars, the Court is not going to do anything. Other cars may have been ticketed and left before you, for example. Save yourself aggravation and pay the fine.

Fighting this without an attorney might not get you anywhere. Of course, it makes no sense to get an attorney to fight this. Is it really worth your time to fight this? It will cost you many hours in court to take this to trial. I would think that several hours of your time is worth much more than $44. Just my opinion.
