Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I have a probationary license in NJ(I have had it for 3 years) and did not know that I was supposed to have upgraded it to a regular license. I got pulled over for not having my headlights on( Which they were, but that is not important) and got a ticket for breaking the hours of driving for a probationary license. I had thought that the basis for my probationary status was based around the date I was issued the license. This was 3 years ago. I do not know what to do.

Your assumption of the law is incorrect. You are a probationary driver until you get a regular license from MVC. It does not matter your age or the length of time you were a probationary driver, until you change it with MVC your status remains probationary.

You need to get a regular license. You can work it out but you should correct your status because by this stage you are no longer a Probationary driver
