Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Pulled over on private property

Just a little confused. Today on my drive to work I was pulled over in the parking lot of my job. Here's the run down, hopefully someone can clear up the legality of the issue for me. As I exited the Garden State Parkway, exit 172, I entered Montvale NJ. As I exited, there was a town police car parked facing the opposite way in the middle of the road, monitoring traffic I'd imagine. As I drove by the officer, I could see in my rearview the brake lights go on, and he made a U-turn to follow me. As I came to my first light, there was one car behind my car, between myself and the police officer, this continued to the next light, where I made a left, and the officer followed with the one car buffer between us, no lights, not directly behind me. I then drove down the road to my job, made the right, drove into the parking lot, and when I went to park, he finally came up the driveway and threw his lights on.

My job is not in a mall, or a public place, it's a private corporation. Is there any legality behind the officer pulling me over on private property when he had not directly persued me prior to that moment?

The law permits so called "hot pursuit" and also, with probable cause to believe an offense has been committed, an officer may stop your vehicle. The officer is not required to stop your vehicle in locations where this would cause a hazard to himself or others, such as locations where there is no should and no safe place for his and your vehicle to stop. Re: Pulled over on private property

As long as the officer has probable cause he can pull you over. Did he issue a summons and what for?
