Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
recieved summons to appear for reckless driving
I received a summons to appear in court for Reckless driving. The complaint was filed by the mother of a 15 year old passenger in a car that was driving agressively with me.
There was a car in front of me going about 20 miles an hour on a 40mph road. There were 3 teenagers in the car.
I passed the very slow moving vehicle, then the driver of the vehicle raced up behind me and tailgated me. I motioned for the driver to pull over. I yelled at the driver for tailgating me at 50 miles an hour after driving 20 miles and hour for a mile. The three teenagers in the car thought it was a big joke...so I punched the passenger closest to me.
I left the scene, but an officer showed up at my home later. He said he would be sending me a summons for assult.
I have not as yet received the summons for assult, but received a summons for Reckless Driving which was filed by the mother of the teenager that I punched.
The mother was not in the car and only has the story that her son told her. (which is untrue)
The summons was not issued by an officer.
What advice can you give???

Re: Municipal Court Summons
The best advice that I can give you is to seek the representation of an attorney. Your case is very fact sensitive and a defense may be made. Or there is a possibility of a plea bargain. However, you are much more likely to have a good result with an attorney. The charges against you are very serious and may subject you to substantial fine and loss of license. Accordingly, do not delay. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. If you mention LawGuru, there will be no charge for your first consultation. Good luck! Re: recieved summons to appear for reckless driving
I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE TRAFFIC OFFENSE, WHAT STANDS OUT IS THE ASSULT CHARGE. YOU REALLY NEED TO HIRE A CIMINAL ATTORNEY. YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD. I DO HAVE MORE QUESTIONS IN REFERENCE TO THE FACTS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO ME PLEASE CALL ME AT 201-646-9600. THERE IS NO COST FOR THE FIRST PHONE CONVERSATION.
ALL THE BEST,
