Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
suspened licence for a child support issue
I had a problem with a check never being received by NJ Child support. I was not notified by any agency even as of today that my drivers licence was suspened on 5-1-07. I was pulled over for a traffic check and given a ticket for driving on a suspened licence. How do I defend
this ticket and what charges or fines am I facing. Doesn't the state have to notify a person when their licence is suspended.

Re: suspened licence for a child support issue
Surprisingly, the state does NOT always have to notify you if your license is going to be suspended. If it is suspended by a court order, for failure to appear at a scheduled court date or for failure to pay child support, they do not have to send you written notice. That being said, I have had a lot of success getting a driving while suspended ticket amended to a lesser charge despite the state not having to notify you. The penalties you are facing for a first offense of driving while suspended include high fines and a further loss of your license. My advice would be to consult with a lawyer about this. Please contact me if you would like to discuss your case further. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
