Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Tailgating & Improper Turn Tickets

I received two tickets in the mail one for tailgating and the other for improper lane change on the Turnpike. After some research it appears that the ticket was written by an officer, it appears that he might have been off duty. This case is being heard in court where the judge is notoriously strict. I was told by prosecutor that ticket said I was observed turning on my floodlights and turning improperly almost causing an accident. I didn't do this and I don't understand how they can prove that I was driving my car since I wasn't stopped. Don't they have to prove that I was driving beyond a reasonable doubt? I have a witness and we went to court but the officer didn't show up. I received regular tickets, if the officer was off duty shouldn't this be a citizen complaint? Because I'm a lawyer, I was offered an unsafe driving and 2 point plea, but I really didn't do this, is there anything else I can do. I have fought a ticket out of principal in the past and gotten screwed but really don't want to waste my unsafe driving option on this.

Re: Tailgating & Improper Turn Tickets

If you didn't do it then you shouldn't plead guilty to anything. You should demand that a firm trial date be set and if the officer doesn's show on that date you should move for a dismissal of the charges. If he does show, then try the case. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout NJ in the past. I would like to discuss your case with you in more detail. Please contact me at your convenience to talk about this. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. I will tell you though that there are two courts that I absolutely will not appear in due to problems I have had with the judges and those are Weehawken and Secaucus. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-

You are dealing with seven points and a possible whopping increase in insurance premiums for three years. You need an attorney.

Unless the officer knew you prior to the alleged incident I do know how he can identify you.

Call me if you like.
