Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Ticket for Driving with Historic Plates

On February 19th while driving my vehicle with Historic plates in a residential area I passed a police car. The officer made a U-turn and parked his vehicle approximately 20 feet from where I was stopped for a red light. The light turned green and the officer remained stationary. Approximately 3 days later, I received a ticket in the mail for violation of Statute No. 39:3-33. In the Other Traffic/ Parking Offense section of the ticket, Improper Plate Misuse of Historic Plates (39:3-27.4) was written.

The license plates were properly displayed on my vehicle and were not obstructed or incorrectly mounted in any way. The officer did not pull me over and speak to me to determine whether the vehicle was being used in a manner other than that allowed for vehicles registered as historic.

I would like to plead not guilty given the above information, but would welcome input regarding whether I was in fact in violation of the statutes referenced above.

Re: Ticket for Driving with Historic Plates

You might want to go to DMV and get some info from them to make sure your plates are ok. Try to get something in writing from them if you can.

When you go to court, speak to the prosecutor and find out why you got the ticket. Then you can take it from there.
