Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
Ticket for going through a Red Light
I was just stopped going through a yellow light. I saw the officer in my rearview window, I have never run a red light in my life and have been driving over 40 years. My car was midway thru the intersection and I did pay attention and didn't even see the light turn red. Next thing I know, sirens and I'm pulled over and he claims I ran the red light, which I know I did not. Happens that he pulls me over in front of Mun.Bldg and tells me I can pay the ticket there. I asked what night is court and told him I would see him there. I was even doing under the speed limit. I travel this route home 4 days a week. How can I successfully defend? And are points associated with it? Is there a law about a yellow light in NJ. I always thought it was a caution that that the light is going to turn red shortly. I know it is the end of the month and quotas have to be met but this is ridiculous.
