If someone gets a ticket while using my vehicle, who is responsible?

Hello,

My father was taking care of my vehicle for me while I was out of State and managed to get it ticketed and towed for partially parking in a handicapped spot. Since my father wasnt present when the ticket was being written, the officer wrote the ticket out to me--assuming that I must have been the operator. I spoke to the Town Prosecutor, who told me that the ticket belongs to whomever parked the vehicle there--and not to me. Is that correct? The Prosecutor went ahead and changed the ticket into my fathers name and lowered the charge to a small parking violation. He told me that my father can come to court and plead to the ticket, since it is in his name and was his offense in the first place. Is this ticket indeed the responsibility of my father? Actually, you are responsible because you are the owner of the car. The prosecutor tried to give you a break by not only charging your father, he reduced the charge to a minor violation. In any event, the car did not drive itself. If you want to save your father the expense you should ask the

prosecutor to amend the ticket so that it names you

and so that it states the original charge.
