Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

traffic summons

Recieve summons to appear in municupal court for what appears to failure to produce documents. I have not been in that town in years? Appears someone used my name during a traffic stop. Advice? t/y

Call the police department to get the name of the cop who issued the ticket and then ask to speak with him. He'll probably be on the road, so leave a message. When you talk to him, ask him for all the details of the stop, if he remembers. Tell him what you think happened. They should have dispatch records available which can show you the license plate of the car that was stopped, although this info should already be on the ticket with the VIN#. He should be able to figure out pretty quick what happened.
