Its not the most serious ticket in the world and you may be able to work out a decent plea offer for a no point ticket if you have no prior points. If you don't like the offer, you can always punt and come back with an attorney. Here's your only is issue, would it be a real pain for you to take off of work to go there? Now I'm sure it'll cost you more than you make in a few hours to hire an attorney, but I still want to raise the issue because you are out of state, you can hire an attorney to go on your behalf and deal with the ticket. Just a thought.

If you concern is avoiding points, then you should try to fight the ticket. I believe that your ticket carries three points. However, I do not believe that NJ points carry over to NY, but they may affect your insurance nevertheless.
My office is only 15 minutes from Newark, and I appear in Newark Municipal court regularly. Please contact me if you would like a consultation on this.

I would have to speak with you about your driving history first, but most likely I can get this changed to a zero point ticket for you AND you won't even have to come to court (I can handle this case by an affidavit signed by you). I am in the Newark court all the time - I was just there this morning - so I feel confident that I can help you. Please call me to discuss your case. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
