Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Twelve year old tickets that i never knew existed

I just recieved a letter from the DMV office with a list of violations from 1989. According to my driving record there are about 6 or 7 violations that are apparently are still active. I have 2 brothers and the older was arrested some years ago and gave them my youngest brothers name and was released. He never showed up for court. I'm wondering maybe he did the same thing to me, he currently resides in Fla. now. Is there any possible way to clear this up.

You will need to consult with an attorney! Some of the tickets are probably too old to enforce regardless of the circumstances, but would need to know more specifics to assist you further. For example, what are the actual offenses, are they in different towns, what took so long to find you etc.

Do yourself a favor and do not attempt to fix this yourself.

You would need to contact each of the courts to deal with each of the matters in those courts. You can find that information on the "abstract" on the back of the DMV notice that you received. I would be happy to assist you with reading the codes on that form to determine where you have the issues.

If your brother impersonated you in 1989, the officers involved, if they are still on duty, they would never be able to ID you, and you would have to be acquitted.

We could then straighten out any other issues you have with DMV.

I agree with both attorneys opinions. This can be worked out. It may be that this tickets are so old, some of the officers might not even be around to try the case. In this event, those tickets would be dismissed.

You must take care of this. You do not want this hanging over your head.
