Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
Uninsured vehicle involved in car accident in New Jersey NJ
I recently moved to New Jersey and my Car insurance/registration elapsed.
Recently I was involved in a multiple cars pile up on a local highway. I was caught in the middle when a car in front of me made a very hard stop. No personal injury was reported at the scene and everybody drove away. However the officer who handled the accident report gave me two citations for driving without insurance and registration.
I never had any accident in the past so I really do not know what will happen. I am very concerned at this point since I do not know what the possible penalty will be when I come to court. Do I need to do community service or worse if found guilty? Should I hire a lawyer to explain the case to the judge for leniency?

You really should get an attorney as there is no leniency. The penalty for driving without insurance is 1 year DL suspension, no more, no less. Thus, you must fight this with everything you got.
My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss this case.

Driving without your registration carries some serious penalties. You should definitely consult with an attorney. We do not charge for initial consultations.

In New Jersey driving a motor vehicle without insurance has a mandatory penalty of a one year suspension of driving privileges. Ask yourself whether you need to be able to drive in New Jerey.

39:6B-2, first offense - fine between $300 and $1,000 and loss of license for one year, plus community service; second offense - fine up to $5,000, jail term 14 days, 30 days community service plus loss of license for two years.
Obviously, the penalties are severe. Some prosecutors may agree to request the Judge to downgrade the offense if you have insurance in place by the time you get to Court. In any case, it is in your best interest to obtain an attorney.
Keep in mind that this advice is given based on the little bit of information that you have
provided in your question. My advice may change based on other information. Further, no one
can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You cannot rely on this advice
because we have not personally met and you have not retained me as an attorney. If you have not
already done so, you should immediately meet with an attorney for a full consultation before you
take any further steps. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
