Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

My Wife was pulled over for Driving While Suspended

Hey everyone, we are curious, my wife was pulled over and cited for Driving while suspended and Registeration Expired. We have court coming up in July and would like to know what are the possible outcomes and if we should retain a lawyer for this (this being the first time she has ever been in trouble)

We were unaware of the license being suspended as we had moved from NJ to PA 6 years ago and just recently moved back to NJ (where she had changed her license from NJ to PA back to NJ without ANY problems whatsoever).

But we do also acknowledge we did not fully pay a fine received serveral years back that caused the suspension.

How should we proceed.

Re: My Wife was pulled over for Driving While Suspended

A conviction for driving while suspended subjects the defendant up to a six month license suspension a minimum of a $500.00 fine AND motor vehicle surcharges of $385.00 per year for three years. You should hire an attorney.

As Mr. Moore pointed out, a Driving While Suspended charge (39:3-40) carries some hefty fines. In addition, it remains on your driver abstract forever; you cannot have it expunged. Subsequent offenses are much more costly. Please feel free to call my office if you'd like more information.
