name change for a transgender individual

I am wondering what the legal age to change a name in New Jersey is- 18 or 21- as I am an FTM who would like to change my first & middle name within the next few years.

Re: name change for a transgender individual

The age is 18 to start the proceeding for a name change. The procedure is relatively painless but does require compliance with court rules, ie filing documents etc. I definately recommend you retain an attorney for this procedure.

Re: at what age can you change your name?

You can file a Complaint to change your name at 18. There are some technical notice requirements that you should follow in order to do so. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, before you take any further action, you should contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. If you mention LawGuru, there will be no charge for your first consultation. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
