Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

Where can I get a copy of heirs in will?

We were told our children were to recieve an amount of money after the passing of my husbands parents. Both are now deceased for several years. We were not at funneral and have not been in touch with family over the years.I would like to know how to find out what the will stated, and if my children were in the will, should we have been notified? We now live in Pa.We did live in N.Jersery until our retirement, this is where my in laws resided for their entire life.

Thank you for any information you may give

If you contact the Surrogate's office in the County where they resided, they can tell you if a Will was filed. There is a charge for copies and you can send a check for the copy. They should also be able to tell you who the executor is and the attorney handling the estate. If the children were named, you should have been advised of the probate and provided with a copy of the Will. If you give me the name(s), dates of death and where they lived, I could assist you.

If there was a probabte estate opened the will would have been presented for probate at the register of wills office in the county in which your in laws lived. I copy of the will can be obtained from that office.
