Copy of a Will

I would like information about what I have to do to get a copy of a will. This is a family member who had passed away in the year 2000. Please direct me on how I can obtain this. If there is a way of obtaining this will, what are the fees for this? Thank you!

Re: Copy of a Will

The will should be probated in the county in which your family member resided at the time of his/her death. This is the responsibility of the representative of the estate (executor or executrix). If it was not done, suit would need to be brought to force him/her to do what is required. It is hard to estimate the fees because litigation has so many variables. Most attorneys would take this case only on an hourly basis, charging you for the time spent. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not retained an attorney, before you take any further action, you should contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be able to rely on the advice. I will be happy to assist you. However, you need to call me at 856-546-8010. If you mention LawGuru, there will be no charge for your first consultation. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
