Death of spouse

My husband died shortly after our wedding, he has significant student loans. Will I be held responsible for them?

The answer to your question is "No". Unless you co-signed for the loans, you will not be responsible for them.

Unless you personally guaranteed the loans, you have no liability. However, if he had assets in his own name (like bank accounts, securities, etc.) his estate will be responsible to pay those debts. Joint assets (in both your names) might be able to be reached if they came from him or if he contributed to the account registered in both names. More information on his assets and how they were created is needed to give you a better answer.
