Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

Estate Liens

If, eight years before my mother's death, a person paid the taxes on my mother's house for one year; (mother owned the house by herself), can that person place a lein on the estate for the amount of the taxes she paid? Is there a statute of limitations for this? This was in New Jersey.

Thank You

Re: Estate Liens

More facts are needed for a proper reply. Why did that person pay the taxes? Was it a loan to your mother? Did your mother give anything in writing to support the payment as a loan? Did that person live with your mother? Why did the person pay the taxes? It sounds like someone, a friend perhaps, lent money to your mother to assist her, and then was not repaid. What type of document was filed to record the lien? Was it a mortgage, a tax lien, or a judgment from a court suit? If you can give me more details, I can try to explain it to you.
