Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

My father was a US citizen but died in Spain. He died in 2002 with only a wife has heir. I just want to know if I, as his daughter, have any rights at all to anything, even if it's just to know where he is interred and getting estate information? He was also

a sargent in the Marines and served in Korea. Anything in the respect? Thank you.

Hard to answer. Best is to start with the Surrogate in the County where he resided when he died. Give her name and approximate date of death. You can find out what has been done, such as a Will probated (for a small cost you can obtain a copy), get estate representative information (Executor, Administrartor, Attorney). Going to the office will allow you to what was filed, like accountings, Refunding Bonds, etc. Have you spoken to your mother to see what she knows? How about siblings? Surrogate only will have information on "probate assets", which are assets individually owned by a decedent. Joint accounts and those having a designated beneficiary pass to heirs outside probate, so if most assets were owned jointly with wife, there may be scanty information available.
