grandmother's will

my son was left a trust fund in his grandmother's will. She died about a month ago. when should he hear from his aunt about when it was or is probated?

Typically, the Will is probated a few weeks after someone dies, but until the Will is actually probated, your son would not receive any notice.

Once the Will is probated and the executor has been appointed by the Surrogate, your son will be entitled to receive Notice of Probate and a copy of the Will, within 60 days of the date the Will is probated.

While I agree with Jon as to the preliminaries (probating the Will, getting notice of the probate), you provide no information as to the estimated size/value of the estate or its asset composition. Depending upon the value of the estate, its administration can run from several months to a year or more, if death taxes are involved or if its assets may require special treatment (e.g., sale of real estate). The Executor has a duty to report, keep your son advised of what is happening and provide a complete accounting to him, and advise when the trust is established.
