Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

heir to benificiary of a trust.

My mother died and left my sister and me her share in a trust (mineral rites).

Is there something we had to do to protect our inheritance. The trust sits in NJ and the land is in TX.

not sure what you mean by "protect." You should get a deed to the interest in the property. It is just like any other property to protect.

I'm not sure I understand your question. However, in my experience, interests in mineral rights [and oil & gas interests] require ancillary probate proceedings in the state where the property is located. If there is no ancillary probate, title to the land where the mineral rights are located will not be transferred to you.
