Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey
hidden trust
Hello, I believe there is a trust account set up by my late father for my mother and i am probally named in it. It has been two years since his death.A couple of slips of the tongue by mom and mt sister include ; I am a trustee in the estate,i found a paper by dad saying i left 7000 in a trust account and then mom said in the back round to shut up,my sister saying i would be getting documents about signing off of stock. It has been 2 months and no papers. My sister said somehow my mom worked around it without me signing.I do not want to petition my mother in court to see if there is trust documents. Is there a barrister society or something along those lines where lawyers record the trusts and will release the info.Thank you Diane

Re: hidden trust
A trust need not be made public, so there is no way to locate information except by suit against the estate and the Executor. If you know what bank or brokerage firm is involved, you may be able to get information from them. If the account or trust had its own tax ID number, there may have been tax returns filed, but you would need the number to get any information from IRS. Trust accounts can be set up several ways: by a simple bank account or by a document created during your father's lifetime, or under his Will. If under the Will, you can get the information by contacting the Executor or trustee named in the Will. This is a response to an Internet question and is not intended to provide a legal opinion or create an attorney-client relationship.
