Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

Long Lost Parents Estate

I am interested in finding my father's wills. He passed away over 7 years ago. I know he had a will and a modest estate. Are there requirements for the will to be filed with the state or federal government? Where would I look for this information? How would I find the executor of the will?

If your father had a will, it should have been filed in the surrogates office in the county in which your father resided at his time of death. You can check there for the will. Within the will itself there will be the appointment of the executor.

Assuming he had a Will (in fact most people do not) then it should have been probated in the Surrogates Office in the County where he lived. You can go to the Surrogate's Office and get a copy of the Will.
