This depends upon a variety of factors, such as the type of assets involved, their need and ability to be liquidated, rather than be distributed in kind or used to pay debts and other expenses, if death taxes are involved and, if so, how are they allocated between the estate and, possibly some or all beneficiaries, and if someone contests the Will and if this requires litigation or if the dispoutes can be settled. Most estates can be completed within a few months, but those involving death taxes or disputes can take much longer, including ones that might take a few years (I was involved in one that due to litigation and appeals of the decision, took almost 6 years). Thus, each estate is considered separately and the length depends upon the individual aspects of the particular estate.
