Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

my mom passed away in October 2011 and being that she wasn't married and that i was her only child that i am the beneficiary. now she had no will but since she was a retired law and enforcement officer i am claimed on her life insurance. the real problem is that i got to college in south Dakota. and my mothers estate is in jersey. being that my cousin is trying to do a renunciation of administration. so she will be authorized to handle the debt. being the next of kin will that mean that i have no more say so in what goes on. or is there something that gives her authority but i get to keep mine as well.

The Administrator runs the show. If you renounce your right to act as Administrator for your mother's estate, the estate administration [all decisions] will be made by someone else [I assume that would be your cousin]. You should not make the decision to renounce without giving this some thought.

You should not renounce your rights to be executrix. Call my office so that I can represent your rights.
