Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey
My question is, My sister has been estranged from my parents for fifteen years when suddenly they both died within two months. I took on the expense of helping them out with money and bills. Also took my father and mother to Dr. Appt. and to Chemo for my father. My father passed away we did not have the rent money to pay for her house for another month so we put the contents into a storage unit. Now my sister said she has the right to everything which they were on a fixed income and did not have anything. She Also demands their ashes. We cannot afford a lawyer.
Thank You.

What does the will say? If there is no will then the assets are split evenly between the children of the deceased.
I agree with John, although you may have a possible claim for reimbursement of expenses and bills you paid, although it could be argued these were gifts from you. Your reimbursement claim could exceed the value of the assets. If there is no Will, you might apply to Surrogate's Court to be appointed Administrator of the estate of the later to pass away, and assert your claim.
