Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

is it reasonable to take over 4 years to distribute assets from an inheritance in the state of new jersey? the will was not contested but a small amount was written in to be donated to a charity causing it to go into probate.

Four years to finalize an estate is very, very, unusual. I would be worried that the executor is either not doing his/her job or perhaps worse.

While I agree with the other authors, not enough facts have been presented for an easy response. For instance, what is the size of the estate, what, if anything, is the relationship between the decedent and who inherits, what assets are in the estate, and what must be sold. It is possible that death taxes could be due and the State is slow to process any returns. If this was a simple estate, not large, no complications, close family inheriting, this seems too long, and Jon's concerns might have merit.
