Re: Has too much time gone by

You might have a problem after all this time. First thing to do is contact the Surrogate's Court where you dad lived when he died, to verify a Will was probated and to get a current status if it was done. In most instances of Wills, bonds are not required, so you may not have a source to go against if anything wrong happened. Do you have any information regarding your father's assets? If so, you may want to check with the asset holders to see what happened. Did he own any real estate? If so, you may want to check with the county clerk/register to see if any Deeds were recorded. Depending upon what happened, you may have to sue your sister, which will be difficult if you do not know where she is presently located. However, if she properly qualified with the Surrogate, that office can accept service of your suit on her behalf. It sounds like you may need an estate attorney to help you. You have not given me enough information to give you more than these basic suggestions on how to get started.
