Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

Time limit on disbursement of inheritance

my grandmother passed away March 1999 in New Jersey,

with no family living in NJ she had her lawyer named

in her will as executor of the estate. There is no

probate or contesting of the will, only thing was

to sell her house and household belongs (belongs

sold in Oct. 1999 at a estate sale) house sold in Feb.

2000, closed in April. None of the heirs have received any of their inheritance (mine is not much

perhaps $1500). My question is when is this lawyer

( who wont answer mail or tele calls from the family)

required to send out these inheritances? Should we

be considering another lawyer to go after this guy?

thanx

Re: Time limit on disbursement of inheritance

Are you quite sure there is no probate? That would be unusual.

Check again. In the probate court in the country in which she lived. If there is in fact a probate apply to the probate judge for an accounting from the executor.

If there really is no probate, then employing another lawyer to check out your interests would seem the prudent thing to do.
