Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey
Transfer of property
My Mom passed away a month ago from cancer. She was of sound mind and very mistrustful of my Dad, her spouse of 64 years. They purchased a home near me, adding my name to the deed, moved and added my name to the deed of the home that they were living in and put up for sale. My mom talked many times to her attorney making it very clear that she wanted me to have her share of the home upon her death. It is a sizable estate..dad is financially VERY secure and was in complete agreement..that is until she died. At the closing he argued but did give me 1/2 (115k). Now he is threatening to sue me for this money and also to remove me off the existing deed claiming that he no longer wants anything to do with me as i ''stole'' his money. He says he doesnt care what legal paperwork there is. She also started a lawsuit naming sole beneficiary which he wants to fight me for. He has changed all accounts POD to grandchildren who never bothered with him and who now have come out of the woodwork, encouraging him to fight me. (more money for them) He is 84 with cardiac and hardening of the arteries..he can be quite manipulative but gets violent mood swings when he doesnt get his way..Can he sue me, please what is your input.

Re: Transfer of property
You do need some solid legal advice. Whether your father has any valid claims, what you should do, will require a careful look. It is certainly an awful situation, but I have handled family fights over money and inheritance which were as nasty as this.
