Unless there is an objection filed to the will, once the executor signs the necessary documents, the will is officially probated. The executor then has the to perform the duties of gathering the assets of the estate, paying the bills, and making the distributions. Depending upon the complexity of the estate this can take 9 months or more.

The executor of the estate should have a good tax estate attorney.
