do you have to accept property that someone leaves you in a will.

I agree with John, noting that the Disclaimer is a formal document that needs to be recorded with the Surrogate's Office within 9 months of the date of death. If you need assistance, contact me directly.

No, you do not have to accept property that is left to you in a Will.
If you don't want it, you can 'disclaim' the property, in which case, it passes to the contingent beneficiaries who would take that property under the will in the event of your death.
