Legal Question in Workers Comp in New Jersey
can my lawyer give me a advance on unsettled law suite
1 Answer from Attorneys
Abolsolutely, positively not. It would be an ethical violation for your lawyer to advance you money in this manner. This is completely barred and a lawyer who does so risks his license. Moreover, since he cannot actually enforce the illegal loan, he would be a fool for doing so, since if he tried to deduct it from a settlement then he would be forced to document the prior unethical act.
There are services that advance cash; do not use them unless you are totally desparate. Borrow from friends or family. The services charge from 36% up to 75% interest per year compounded. Loan sharks are generally better! But if you must, there are some reputable people who you can look at.
Hope that helps.
