Legal Question in Workers Comp in New Jersey
I work at a health care facility. Recently I was attacked and bitten at my job by the patient I take care of. The bite broke my skin, so I am concerned about my health. The facility did document the incident. Now my clients family wants me to sign a release form. The form releases the patient and his family from all liability. I was hired privately by my patients family not the facility. What should I do? Any legal advice would be appreciated.

As to signing that form, two works: HELL NO.
as to what to do, get it taken care of, if the injury keeps you out of work, you may have a workers' compensation claim. you may want to talk to a lawyer. I do not do this kind of legal work any more, but can send you to a lawyer can help you.
Don't sign any release. See if your employer, the family that hired you privately, has worker's compensation insurance. If your condition worsens to the point you need to take time off from work, then anything over 8 days would result in temporary disability payments to you through their worker's compensation insurance carrier. In addition to this, if your condition is so bad as a result of the bite that you have a permanent injury then you may be eligible for a permanent disability award through worker's compensation. You have two years to file a worker's compensation claim from the date of your injury. All this is contingent upon your employer having worker's compensation insurance however. Call me if you have any further questions.
