Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Mexico
Is it legally acceptable to ask racial demographic, sexual orientation information (w/option not to respond) on event registration forms? This is for our own participant tracking and holding ourselves accountable. All applicants are accepted as participants, so has no possibility for selection discrimination.

It is not illegal, but it is surely not recommended. Some will take offense, many will lie, some will go elsewhere. You may wish to rethink the business wisdom of doing what you suggest. If race is not an issue, for example, then you don't need to know mine.
