prevented from making a living
If there is not a non compete or a contract does a former employer have the right to prevent me from getting agency appointments with insurance companies.

Non-compete agreements are generally enforceable in NM if reasonable in geographic scope and length of time. A lawyer would have to read yours to provide you with an opinion as to what activities on your part would violate your agreement.
