Is it possible to revoke your identity, and if so what are the consequences when you do it?

You really can't "revoke" your identity, but you can change it by filing a petition in District Court and obtaining a name-change Order if you are 18 or over. The consequences are that you will need to get everything new - driver's license, social security card, credit cards, etc. You will also have to explain your actions to your friends and family. Most think they need a really good reason to get a legal name change because of the hassle involved which can go on for years. Give some thought, for example, of how much time you will have to spend with the IRS getting the change over.
