Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Mexico

Dispute Response

I sent a letter of dispute to a collection agency regarding an old debt (about 5 years old) from a prior repossession. I received a letter three weeks later from a different agency requesting my assistance ''so that we may reach a quick resolution to your dispute.'' They said they are attempting to verify my dispute they want copies of any documentation I may have that will prove my dispute. They do make it clear that they are a debt collector and they are attempting to collect a debt. Should I respond to this? And if so, how? Am I responsible for ''proving'' my dispute? Didn't I do that by sending the letter?

Re: Dispute Response

You notified them of a dispute, you did not "prove it". You need to present evidence in documentary form (cancelled check in full payment etc.)

Call or e=mail if you need further assistance.
