Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Mexico

Misinformation leads to Repossession

I have a savings account through a federal credit union. I purchased a used vehicle through my credit union loan. After having the vehicle for little over a year, I fell slightly behind on the payments. After making a payment, my mom (co-account holder) went to the bank to make a deposit. She made a payment on the loan and was told that everything was ok as far as the loan goes. The next month my vehicle was repossessed and the credit union demanded $3000 in ten days in order for me to retain the vehicle. I informed them that I didn't have the money and that we were told that everything was fine. Now the credit union has sold the vehicle for $16000, which is $9000 less then what I owed on it. They are stating that I have to pay the remaining balance from the sale. They also neglected to let me get my possessions from the vehicle. My possessions included 300 cds, a radar detector, 2 subwoofers and an amplifier. Would have a strong case if I were to take legal actions for the misinformation and retaining my property?
