Of course. They are just witnesses and any good attorney will contact the witnesses in the case to take a statement. The witness has no obligation to give one or to talk with the attorney or his investigator, but there is nothing wrong with the contact and the attempt to discover what the witness will testify to so long as it is properly and professionally done.
