Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Mexico

Using email to try and recruit someone to cause me injury and harrassment

My ex partner and the father of my son recently became very upset that I became engaged to another man. Yesterday there were an exchange of emails found between my ex and another man in which my ex asked this other man to find me and my new partner (giving him our full names, ages and descriptions of us)and to hurt and scare us, my ex offered to pay this man when the deed was done. I have copies of all of these emails, of course continaing all names, dates and times. My question is - what do I next? What do I do with these emails and this information? I am going to get a Restraining Order against my ex tomorrow, but do I file further charges? hire a lawyer? I don't want my son to be around a person like this but he is my sons father, how do I handle that situation?

Thank you

First, immediately notify law enforcement. The police or sheriff or the district attorney. Do not delay; your safety may be at stake. They know what to do - they do this work frequently. After your safety is ensured, contact a local lawyer about further protections the law may have to offer you. If you need a referral, call the New Mexico Bar Association in Albuquerque. They will help, also. Good luck.
