Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Mexico
expungelment or pardon
I have an arrest record and 2 felonies from 1989-1991. For some time I was under the impression that my arrests had been dropped to misdemeanors. Recently after enrolling in a medical career, needing to get certified and liscenced I find out that 2 were felony convictions. I was between 18-21 then. I am 39 this year and had nothing since. I am a single mom of 3 on disability trying to better my life. I need help. I went through a criminal record removal online and believe I was ripped off for my money. These can hinder my future for my family. Is there any way to do the legal procedure myself? I am a student on clinicals and have only ssi for income. Is there anyone who is doing charity cases who can help me. My incidences accured in Grants and Alb. I was considered an adolescent offender, not a minor. Please help me someone. sincelry....

Re: expungelment or pardon
New Mexico has a procedure in which you can have a portion of your civil rights restored if you successfully completed all requirements of your prior convictions. At present NM has no procedure for expungement, although the legislature considers it from time to time. For now, the only way to get felony or misdemeanor convictions or arrests removed from the public records of New Mexico is through a gubernatorial pardon, which is seldom granted.
