Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Mexico

Length of Time for Extradition Flight from Maine to New Mexico

I have a family member who was on probation and left the state of New Mexico resulting in a warrant for their arrest they were pulled over on a traffic violation in the state of Maine and were jailed in Maine until US Marshalls picked them up to extradite them to New Mexico to go before a jude. The Marshalls took her from Maine a week ago today and she has still not arrived in the state of New Mexico. How long does the extradition process take?

Thank you

Re: Length of Time for Extradition Flight from Maine to New Mexico

The federal government does not extradite. It arrests those who have criminal warrants issued by the courts. Transport from point of arrest to point of detention, Maine to NM, may take as long as 90 days with the time in Oklahoma City where all prisoners end up, as it is the hub of Con Air which does the transport. Check with the US Marshall's transport officer in Albuquerque for specific information.
