Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Mexico

Reckless driving speeding ticket

About a month ago I received a reckless driving ticket for going 75 in a 45. Basically I want to know what I'm looking at. Honestly I thought I was going 65 which would put me 5 mph outside the limits for reckless driving in New Mexico. Of course I know that excuse won't hold up in court. I've been asking around and heard a few responses as to what sentencing people have been given. One person told me that her friend got thrown in jail for a few days and got his license taken away, another person said that he got the ticket taken off his record with community service. Might that be an option for me? One other thing is that I've noticed my speedometer jumping around on occasion. Like it will get stuck and the jump up. Is that a possible defense that could take the charge down to a standard speeding ticket?

Re: Reckless driving speeding ticket

None of your excuses will work. Depending upon which court will decide your case, you may be eligible for Aggressive Driver's Training School if you have no prior serious NM convictions. Ask the judge is that is an option for you. Successful completion will keep the conviction off your record.
